How to install the Bad Gecko Antenna Hood Mount for the JL or JT.

These brackets are made from 1.5mm 304 Stainless. While it is not polished, it would lend itself nicely to polishing if you are so inclined.
Bad Gecko Antenna mounts come in two different styles. One is for standard CB antennas utilizing a 3/8″ stud. The other is for NMO antennas with a 3/4″ hole typical for Ham or FRS/GMRS radios. You will have received one or the other. Installation is the same for either one.
Tools Needed
- Ratchet
- 10mm Socket (Sorry, I know. But one is not included in the box.)
Pick a Side
Our hood mount will work on either side. The following pictures show the left side, however it will work on either side
Pick a Screw
There are bolts located along the top side of the engine bay along the fender well. The two located closest to the firewall will work. The fenders on the JL and JT are tall enough that they tend to cause clearance issues for the bolts forward of this, so I can’t recommend using those.
Loosen the Bolt
Loosen the bolt so it is just high enough to slide the bracket under it. You can remove it completely if you want, however, it is not needed. Plus if you don’t take it out completely you won’t accidentally drop it into the engine bay. That’s a pain. Trust me.
Jeep paints over the bolts after assembly at the factory. The 10mm socket may be hard to fit on the bolt. There may be some paint chipping on the bolt and around the washer. Just be aware. If this is a concern you can purchase some touchup paint from your local Jeep dealer.
Slide it in
Slide the bracket between the body and the washer, then tighten it back down
Bracket is now installed
Now your bracket is installed. Carefully close your hood and check clearances. There is a lot of variance from Jeep to Jeep so some minor adjustment may be needed.
You are now ready to install your antenna according to the antenna manufacturer’s instructions.
